In Year 1 we work on the transition from the more play-based curriculum in reception to working from the National Curriculum. We are busy growing our brains and becoming more independent learners.

 

Summer Term

Our Summer term brings a new, exciting whole school approach to learning through our participation in the Chester Zoo project. Over the duration of the term, we will be bringing our learning to life by discovering the devastating impact of deforestation caused by growing palm oil plantations around the world. We will use our new, growing knowledge to help educate, inform and persuade others (as well as ourselves) to make a difference to the world we know and love, therefore becoming more respectful, responsible citizens of the future.

Important Information

Homework

  • Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week.  Books will be changed when handed in. we encourage children to read the book more than once - please try to ask your child questions about the book and make some predictions about what might happen next.  
  • Maths/ phonics/ writing which consolidates the week's learning, will be given out every Friday to be in by the following Wednesday.
  • Spellings will be issued each week to be tested on Friday 

PE Kit

  • PE kits must be in school in every day and will be sent home every half term.
  • Swimming kit to be brought in each Friday during Spring Term
