AIM HIGH AND TAKE PRIDE.

In Year 2 we want children to throughly enjoy every day. We want all children to take an active role in learning and become independent learners. This year the children will continue to develop their growing independence to achieve their goals. We aim to create a safe and stimulating environment, where all children are valued and enjoy learning. Together, we take pride and aim high every day. This year we are learning from the new curriculum.

We have an inquiry based approach at Rossmore and all of our projects incorporate a number of curriculum areas. If you click the knowledge organisers below, you will be able to see our Autumn and Spring term projects (the Summer project will follow once finalised).

Our Autumn Project focused on a Global Issue this time which was Plastic Pollution. The children have learnt about the uses of plastic but also about the effects that plastic can have on the environment, particularly its impact on sealife.

In the Spring term, we are learning about an area 'Down the Road' which is Delamere Forest. The children are going to be visiting here on a residential from the 4th - 6th March (separate letters and information will follow). We are going to be looking at what animals and humans need to be able to survive, looking at habitats and den building as well as great historical events such as the Great Fire of London.

In the Summer Term we will be learning about What is on our Doorstep? This will incorporate the History and Geography of where we live as well as looking at how things have changed over time.

Reading

Reading books come home everyday. We expect children to be enjoying books at home everyday to promote a love of reading. Children should be reading their home/school reading books at least 3 times a week with an adult. We use accelerated reader in school where children complete a quiz on the book they have been reading and gain points so please ask your child lots of questions when reading to make sure they understand the book.

Spellings

Spelling homework is also sent home weekly. This is so that you know what spellings your child is learning that week. This does not have to be returned and is there for practice.

Children have access to spelling shed where they can play games to practice.

Times Tables

Children have access to Times Table Rockstar and can practice this throughout the week. 5 minutes a night would be ideal where possible. At the moment, your children are learning there 2, 5 and 10 times tables and should be practising applying this to the division facts too.

Other homework

PackTypes homework is also sent home termly linked to their project. This should be brought to school frequently so that children can share their learning with others in their class.

PE Kits

These should be brought in every Monday and kept in school until at least Friday when children can take them home to wash them. Please make sure your child has the correct kit.

Swimming

Year 2 will swim on a Monday starting from January and will continue swimming until the Easter break. Please make sure your child has the correct kit.
