Year 5 is an important year in Primary School. We prepare children for their transition into Year 6 by focusing on their independence and resilience.

We encourage all children to be themselves and aim to support different types of learners through our 'Pack Types'. 'Learning Powers' also enable children to be more confident in understanding what makes a good learner.

This year, our learning will be achieved through our three main projects. They are as follows:

Autumn Term - The Problem with Plastics

Spring Term - War and Peace

Summer Term - What's on my Doorstep?

Homework
Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week.

Spellings will be given to children to take home on a Monday and these will be tested on Friday.

We will also set the children various projects to take on at home throughout the year.

Children are also encouraged to practise on Times Tables Rockstars at home.

Year 5 are currently undertaking a 'Fitness Challenge' for which there is a leaderboard in class. Children will take home a letter on a Friday which outlines that weekend's challenge.

PE

PE kit should be in school every day. However, children will be doing PE on a Wednesday.

Year 5 will be swimming on a Monday throughout the Autumn term.
