Year 6 is a crucial year in getting children ready for their transition to high school. We work hard in ensuring children build on their independent and organisational skills and take responsibility for their own learning.

We aim to create a learning environment that is relaxed and engaging to ensure that all children reach their potential. We embrace a growth mindset and celebrate being stuck; this encourages more children to be more confident in their learning and understand that you have to make mistakes in order to grow.

Throughout different topics, the children will learn a range of knowledge across all subjects that we are required to teach in Key Stage 2.

Spring term in Year 6

Our theme this term is War and Peace and will focus on WW1 and 2. It's also the term that you all go off to France and have a ball!

Key things to remember:

1. P.E is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. All P.E kits should be in on Mondays and taken home on Fridays just in case they're needed.

2. Homework. Your new Pack Types homework will be out soon. This should be back in before the Easter holidays. Your work should take up to two months to do and so you need to put lots of thought into what you will do and how your work will be presented. If you have permission to take your iPad home, you should be on SpellingShed, MathsShed and Times Tables Rockstars every night. Reading for at least 10 minutes each night is expected too. There will be homework tasks on GoogleClassroom throughout the term too.

Autumn term was great, so let's make this one just as good or even better!

Important Information Useful Website and Links

Homework

  • Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week
  • Spellings are given out each Monday, which should be practised during the week prior to a spelling test each Friday
  • Children will be given homework and projects throughout the year. There will be varying timescales to these homework projects.
  • Times Tables Rockstars- children are encouraged to use this educational app at home

Children become stuck on their homework, please send it in so that they can be supported with this.
