Year 6 is a crucial year in getting children ready for their transition to high school. We work hard in ensuring children build on their independent and organisational skills and take responsibility for their own learning.

We aim to create a learning environment that is relaxed and engaging to ensure that all children reach their potential. We embrace a growth mindset and celebrate being stuck; this encourages more children to be more confident in their learning and understand that you have to make mistakes in order to grow.

The children will be learning through 3 main projects this year.

  • The first project is called Same but Different. Throughout this we will study similarities and differences between Ellesmere Port now and in the past, as well as comparing the UK to North America. We will be looking at how people are the same but different and celebrating these differences.
  • The second project is called Social Justice. This stems from a play called Adrift that the children will be watching in the Spring term and focuses on refugees and the difficulties around this.
  • Our third topic is Think Global Act Local which will look at the usefulness of bees and how if this species died out, it would affect our lives and the lives of future children. The children will be taking part in projects around the school and will be working to educate people in the surrounding areas about this issue.

Throughout these topics, the children will learn a range of knowledge across all subjects that we are required to teach in Key Stage 2.
