Welcome to Year 1!
What we are learning
In the Autumn term, our project is 'Can we be different but still be equal?'. In this project, the children explore the concepts of community and identity learning about themselves and their family. The children also look into the History of toys and learn about how their local area has changed over time.

In the Spring term, our project is 'Do you need to be brave to be powerful?' exploring the concepts of power and courage. The children look at a range of influential people to include Queen Elizabeth ll and Neil Armstrong and look at historical events that have had an impact on the world.
In the Summer term, the focus question is 'Are we responsible for protecting our environment?' looking at the concepts of choices and change. In this topic, children look at how our actions can be harmful to other living things around us and explore how they can make a difference.

Please send reading books in every day so we have the opportunity to read in school (Books will be changed on a Tuesday and a Friday if they have read their book more than once). Reading is extremely important in our development!
Homework
Homework will be reading at home and there will be spelling work too.
If you have any questions then please get in touch via email or class dojo.
