Welcome to Year 4!

Year 4

Welcome to Year 4, we are very busy in our class this term learning lots of new knowledge whilst using our prior knowledge to help us and most importantly having fun along the way.

What we are learning this term
In the Autumn Term, we will focus on our concept driven project   ‘Is everyone equal?’ Key concepts/vocabulary we will discuss and use to drive this project are community and identitiy. In this project, we will look at our local environment through Science, Art and DT.

In the Spring term, we will consider the question 'Should we be influenced through power?' and wil explore the concepts of Power and Courage. We will study the Roman Empire and the inventions that this brought.

In Summer, the children study Ancient Greece and how this has shaped our world today as well as looking at Rivers and Europe in Geography. Our concepts are choices and change studied through our question for this term: ‘Is change always a good thing?’

PE
Please read the school newsletter to see when our PE days are. Children must come into school wearing their PE kit on those days. Our school PE kit is a white polo shirt and black shorts with trainers or pumps. As the weather gets colder, the children are welcome to wear black jogging bottoms and a black jumper/their red school jumper.

Homework
Homework will be set on Friday to be completed by the following Thursday. Ideally, we would love children to read everyday and be read to as often as possible to build up their vocabulary and understanding of texts. Spellings will be set and from time-to-time with appropriate maths or further literacy set. At times, we will also set topic related homework. For example, carrying out research on Ancient Greece.
