Year 6 2024 - 2025
Mr Billinge
Welcome to Year 6! This is a really important year for children in Primary School as it is their final year before they embark on their journey at Secondary School. This year is all about developing independent and confident learners.
In Autumn Term, Year 6 will be focusing on the concepts 'Community' and 'Identity'. We will be looking at what is on our doorstep and learning about Ellesmere Port's rich history. We will be exploring what it means to be part of a thriving community and how we can share our positive values to make it the best it can be.
In Spring Term, we will look at the conepts of Power and Courage through the question 'Can conflict bring positive change?'. They will study the World Wars and the aftermath of this.
In Summer term, the key question will be 'How can making choices change our lives?'. The children will look at South America, studying a continent 'Over the Water' and look at significant figures in History such as Christopher Columbus and Isaac Newton.
Please read the school newsletter to see when our PE days are. Children must come into school wearing their PE kit on those days. Our school PE kit is a white polo shirt and black shorts with trainers or pumps. As the weather gets colder, the children are welcome to wear black jogging bottoms and a black jumper/their red school jumper.
Homework
Homework will be set on Friday to be completed by the following Thursday. Ideally, we would love children to read everyday and be read to as often as possible to build up their vocabulary and understanding of texts. Spellings will be set and from time-to-time with appropriate maths or further literacy set. At times, we will also set topic related homework. For example, carrying out research on Stone Age homes.
