Geography

At Rossmore, our Geography curriculum develops pupils’ understanding of the world in which they live through the study of place, space and environment.  Geography provides a basis for pupils to understand their role within the world, by exploring locality and how people fit into a global structure, the subject also encourages children to learn through experience, particularly through practical and fieldwork activities.

Our aim is to equip all children with geographical skills to develop their knowledge through studying places, people and natural and human environments. Through our teaching, we want our children to discover answers to their own questions through exploration and research to allow them to gain a greater understanding and knowledge of the world and their place in it.

Each term, children access Geography under their termly projects; ‘On the doorstep’, ‘down the road’ and ‘over the water’. Children are presented with frequent opportunities to practically apply their geographical skills in a variety of contexts. We use a range of resources within lessons to ensure that children are given the opportunity to complete fieldwork in the school grounds and on off-site visits.
